Olson fires J-Hawks to sweep of Lions

Alyssa Olson continued her dominating pitching, firing a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to lead No.9 Jefferson to an 11-0 win over Linn-Mar and a sweep of their softball doubleheader Thursday at Larry Niemeyer Field.

Jefferson (18-5, 11-3) won the opener, 4-3.

Olson fired a two-hit, 12-strikeout shutout on Tuesday against then-No.4 Dubuque Senior. She fired a three-inning no-hitter Wednesday night against Waterloo West.

Jefferson banged out 10 hits in five innings to back Olson. Hannah Towns and Katelyn Holub had two hits apiece.

Jefferson won the first game when Paige Timmerman delivered a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth that scored pinch runner Avery Guy.

Linn-Mar (5-12, 4-8) had tied the game with three runs in the top of the sixth.

The J-Hawks protected their lead when right fielder Towns threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh.

Amber Grimm was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for Jefferson.

Brooke Stauffer scattered eight hits and picked up the win for the J-Hawks.

Linn-Mar's Alexis Kelsey had two hits. She also scattered six hits as pitcher and took the loss.
