AURORA, Ill. - Linn-Mar senior Josh Evans celebrated his return to racing this fall by winning the Charger Classic Invitational cross country meet Saturday at Oakhurst Park in Aurora, Ill.

The Linn-Mar girls cross country team made it a special day for the Lions by taking first place in their race.

Evans, one of the top distance runners in Iowa, did not race during the first month of the season due to a nagging injury. He returned in top form, however, by beating a field of 138 runners from 18 schools.

Evans covered the three-mile course in 14 minutes, 40 seconds for a 10-second victory. Tanner Rathje placed third for Linn-Mar and Daniel Murphy was fourth. The Lions placed second in the team standings behind Trinity.

The Linn-Mar girls trimmed Saint Ignatius, 70-82, for the top spot among 15 teams. Amber Decker placed fourth for the Lions and Maddie Saville was fifth.
