Erin Jones named softball coach at Wash

Erin Jones has been named the new softball coach at Cedar Rapids Washington, Athletic Director Paul James announced Wednesday. Her appointment is pending school board approval.

Jones replaces Fanaye Wooldrik, who resigned her softball position this fall. Jones is the 12th head coach in the 40-year history of Warrior softball.

Jones is a 2003 graduate of Cedar Rapids Jefferson, where she was a standout three-sport athlete. She was a three-year starter and all-conference player in basketball, and a five-year starter and all-conference and all-Metro in softball. She was a member of three softball state tournament teams.

Jones twice was named all-American in softball at Iowa Lakes Community College, and also was named to the all-Region team in basketball. She played a year of Division I softball at South Dakota State. She graduated from Coe, where she was a two-year basketball starter.

Jones' coaching career has included one year at Iowa Lakes as a grad assistant, and six years as the Washington assistant coach. She also has coached in the Warrior girls basketball program for several years. Jones is a teacher at Jefferson.

James said Jones "has an outstanding softball background from youth softball through college. She understands the components it will take to continue the path to improving the quality of softball at Washington. Her positive relationships with Washington athletes will be a big plus in moving forward."
