Xavier used five pins and five forfeits to put Washington away 66-12 in prep wrestling Thursday night at Washington.

Sean Ickes, Mike Maher, Jeff Vipond, Andrew Billick and Caleb Billick each pinned their opponent for the Saints (1-0).  Maher’s pin at 220 took place just 27 seconds into the match.

“I’ve wrestled him before,” said Maher.  “I know he’s a headlock guy so I went for a trip and pulled him in tight and got the pin.”

Down 2-0 in the first period, Saints senior 138-pounder Andrew Billick went to work and picked up his pin.

“Once he got the take down, I knew I had a battle,”said Billick.  “I was able to put in my cross face cradle and put him away.”

“Over all, we had a pretty good night,” said Xavier Coach Ryan Chambers.  “We have to get in better shape and have a lot of work to do, but we had some good matches.”

Washington (0-1) picked up pins from seniors Tyler Burkle at 170 and Noah Fox at 195 for their 12 points.

“It was my first match of the season so I was excited and emotional,” said Fox.  “We are really looking forward to the season.  We have put in a lot of work and it’s going to pay off for us.”

“We have some kids who have to put in more practice time before they can wrestle,” said Washington Coach Matt Hatcher.  “We have a ways to go, it’s still early.  Burkle and Fox wrestled well.”

Both teams are back on the mats Saturday.  Xavier will be at the Indee Invitational and the Warriors will be at the Bondurant-Farrar Invitational.
