The Washington Warriors, riding a five-game winning streak, returned to the Class 5A girls basketball rankings Thursday in the No.10 position.

Washington was ranked 10th in the preseason poll, but fell out of the rankings after being drubbed by top-ranked Iowa City High by 46 points in the season opener.

The Kennedy Cougars dropped one spot from No.7 to No.8 in Class 5A after losing to third-ranked Waterloo West on the road last week.

Washington hosts Kennedy on Friday night at 6 p.m.

The Xavier Saints fell two spots from No.2 to No.4 in Class 4A after losing to Dubuque Hempstead last week.

The No.1 teams in the state are Iowa City High in 5A, Harlan in 4A, MOC-Floyd Valley in 3A, Western Christian in 2A and Newell-Fonda in 1A.
