RoughRiders knock off Sioux City, 5-2

SIOUX CITY - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders had only 15 shots on goal Friday night, but they made them count.

Dylan Steman scored twice as the RoughRiders defeated Sioux City, 5-2, before 2,567 fans in a USHL game at the Tyson Events Center.

Sioux City out-shot the RoughRiders by a healthy margin, 32-15, but all-star goalie Danny Tirone stopped 30 of those shots for Cedar Rapids.

Brennan Sanford, Steman and Mark Auk gave the RoughRiders a 3-0 lead in the second period, but Sioux City rallied and pulled within 3-2.

Andrew Gaus gave the RoughRiders a 4-2 margin in the third period with assists from Nathan Widman and Sanford. Steman finished the scoring with an empty-net goal on passes from Andrew Poturalski and Ivan Provorov.

Cedar Rapids raised its record to 29-15-2 for 60 points, good for second place in the Eastern Conference. Sioux City fell to 30-14-3 for 63 points, good for third place in the Western Conference.

The RoughRiders host Lincoln Saturday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
