5-goal second period lifts RoughRiders

BENSENVILLE, Ill. - After falling behind 2-0 after one period, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders exploded for five unanwered goals in the second period en route to a 7-3 win over the Chicago Steel in a Wednesday morning USHL game in Bensenville, Ill., before 1,489 fans.

Andrew Poturalski scored twice in the second period for Cedar Rapids (32-19-3, 67 points). He also had an assist on a Frederik Tiffels power-play goal

in the period. Alec Marsh and Ivan Provorov also scored for Cedar Rapids in the second. Marsh had four assists in the game.

 

Mark Auk and Jason Kalinowski found the net in the third period for the RoughRiders. Dylan McLaughlin had four assists and goaltender Danny Tirone stopped 29 of 32 shots to get the win.

The victory moved Cedar Rapids three points ahead of Dubuque for second place in the USHL's Eastern Conference, eight points behind conference leader Indiana.

The Riders return home to host Omaha on Friday before traveling to Dubuque on Saturday.
