Coe softball team blanks Ripon twice

The ninth-ranked Coe softball team swept Ripon in a doubleheader Saturday at Clark Field. The Kohawks took the opener, 11-0, before finishingthe sweep with an 8-0 victory.

Junior Taylor Riedl homered and drove in three runs for the Kohawks in the opener. She went 3-for-4 as Coe rapped out 15 hits.

Senior Nicole Gentile also had three hits and freshman Haley Smith had two. Danielle Schlotterbeck also homered.

Senior Maddison Woodruff pitched three innings, giving up three hits and striking out three. Freshman Maliah Fligg tossed the final four inningsĀ for the Kohawks, allowing one hit while striking out six to earn the win.

Brianna Gardner was 3-for-3 in the second game, scoring two runs and driving in another for Coe. Gentile, Schlotterbeck and Mallory McArtor all tallied two hits. Gentile, who homered again, and Schlotterbeck drove in three and two runs, respectively.

Arran Weeces pitched three innings of one-hit ball, striking out four in the process. Fligg finished the game in the circle, allowing one hit and striking out two over a pair of innings. Coe improved to 16-3 with the sweep.
