Claire Wenisch wins Adenhart Scholarship

The Cedar Rapids Kernels and the Kernels Foundation have selected Xavier High School senior Claire Wenisch as the winner of the 2014 Nick Adenhart Memorial Scholarship.

She will be honored before the Kernels' game June 15 against Burlington.

Wenish, who just graduated from Xavier, was selected for the scholarship based on her school activities, academic accomplishments and accomplishments in track and swimming. She plans on attending the University of Northern Iowa to major in accounting.

Nick Adenhart was a bright young pitcher who played for the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2006 and was a rising star in the Los Angeles Angels organization. Only hours after his 2009 season debut for the Angels, a drunk driver tragically killed him on April 9, 2009 at age 22.

Adenhart's family continues to honor him with the $1,000 annual scholarship in his memory.
