No. 1 Williamsburg boys handle Marion

WILLIAMSBURG – The Marion boys basketball team gave the Class 3A top-ranked Williamsburg Raiders a challenge, but lost 43-36 Friday at Williamsburg.

The Indians (12-6) trailed by just one point, 20-19, at halftime and they held the Raiders (16-1) to 12 field goals in the game.

But Williamsburg pulled away in the second half and shot 16-of-22 from the free-throw line. Marion shot just 5-of-10.

Jacob Manderscheid scored nine points and Craig Engle added eight for the Indians.

Zach Schlabaugh scored 13 points for Williamsburg, Josh Koeppel had 12 and Adam Klein added 10.

MARION (36): Fish 1 1-2 4, Engle 2 3-5 8, Manderscheid 4 0-0 9, Alberts 2 0-0 4, Devin Quinn 2 0-0 4, Smith 2 0-1 4, Deshaun Quinn 1 1-2 3, Williams 0 0-0 0. Totals 14 5-10 36.

WILLIAMSBURG (43): Schlabaugh 3 6-6 13, Koeppel 5 1-1 12, Klein 2 5-6 10, Greiner 0 1-2 1, Heitshusen 0 0-0 0, B.Subbert 0 1-2 1, Francis 0 0-0 0, J.Subbert 1 1-2 3, Stewart 1 1-2 3. Totals 12 16-22 43.
