Mustangs reach .500 mark with sweep

CLINTON - The Mount Mercy Mustangs got strong outings from Austin Czerwiec and Cale Henke Saturday and swept a non-conference doubleheader from Ashford, 4-2 and 6-1, at the Ashford University Field in Clinton.

The sweep lifted Mount Mercy to 11-11 for the campaign.

Czerwiec (4-1) allowed only one earned run in six innings in the first game. He struck out eight batters, walked one and allowed just four hits.

Henke (3-2) tossed 6.2 innings in the nightcap before getting last-out relief from Michael Hackett. Henke was nicked for one unearned run and allowed only three hits. He struck out six batters and walked two.

Cody Williams was 2-for-3 and scored two runs for Mount Mercy in the opener. Jason Darichuk was 3-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Mustangs in the second game. Cody Bell was 2-for-3 and Jimmy Lizarraga scored three runs.

Ashford's record fell to 7-12.
