Coe softball team nipped twice

The Coe College softball team suffered a frustrating day at Clark Field Saturday.

The Kohawks dropped a pair of one-run games to fifth-ranked Luther, 5-4 and 3-2, in an Iowa Conference doubleheader.

The losses dropped Coe to 15-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Luther raised its perfect records to 24-0 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Maliah Fligg went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for the Kohawks in the opener. Anna Corkery and Gretchen Lilienthal also had two hits. The Kohawks scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull within 5-4, but fell a run short.

Haley Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Coe in the second game. Erin Lang also had two hits. The Kohawks scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull within 3-2, but fell a run short again.
