Prior helps No.11 Eagles sweep twinbill

Brooke Prior went 5-for-6, drove in four runs and pitched a one-hitter Saturday as Kirkwood cruised to a pair of victories over Southwestern, 9-0 and 10-0, at Kirkwood.

Both games lasted only five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Prior went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs in the first game. She was 3-for-3 with two more RBIs and pitched her one-hitter in the nightcap, raising her record to 7-0.

The 11th-ranked Eagles raised their records to 30-8 overall and 17-1 in the conference. Southwestern fell to 18-12 overall and 9-9 in the league.

Jasmine Ragusi and Lexi Quandt had two hits for Kirkwood in the first game. Tara Walls collected two RBIs. Nicky Simpson (11-5) tossed a two-hit shutout with three strikeouts.

 

Lexie Biehl belted her 19th home run in the second game. She ranks second in the country with 19 homers and third with 61 RBIs.

Chasney Jenkins had four stolen bases in the nightcap. She has 53 steals for the season, which rank second in the country in NJCAA Division II.

Natalie Clark had a home run and three RBIs in the second game. Alicia Crivaro and Walls had two hits.

Kirkwood leads the nation with 82 home runs in 38 games.
