Kernels make noise in 9-3 victory

APPLETON, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels took a step in the right direction Monday night with a 9-3 victory over Wisconsin in a Midwest League game before 663 fans at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Kernels, who have struggled the past two weeks scoring runs, collected six extra-base hits, drew 10 walks and scored runs in five different innings.

T.J. White led the way with three hits for the Kernels, including a pair of doubles. Max Murphy had two hits and drove in three runs.

Jared Wilson (3-0) allowed three runs in six innings for the victory in his longest stint of the season. He struck out seven batters.

Zach Tillery pitched three scoreless innings in relief for a save. He allowed only one hit and struck out four batters.

Cedar Rapids (14-11) and the struggling Timber Rattlers (8-17) are scheduled to meet again Tuesday night in the second game of the series.
