Natalie Halvorson tossed a four-hit shutout Tuesday night as Cedar Rapids Prairie blanked Dubuque Hempstead, 10-0, in the first game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Prairie.
The Hawks also won the second game, 5-3.
The sweep lifted Prairie to 14-6 in the Mississippi Division of the MVC as it continues to battle for the title with six games left in the conference race.
Amanda Pipolo went 3-for-3 with a double and triple for Prairie in the 10-0 victory. Lauren Kuch went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Shelby Frederick wsa 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Anne Cerveny was 2-for-3 with a double.
Halvorson tossed a complete game, with three strikeouts and no walks.
Taylor Moenk went 4-for-4 and scored twice in the 5-3 verdict in the nightcap. Frederick was 3-for-4. Cerveny went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Frederick pitched the first four innings for the victory. Halvorson tossed the last three innings and collected a save.
Prairie raised its overall record to 21-9. Hempstead fell to 7-13 in the conference and 11-15 overall.
