It took the Xavier boys basketball team six weeks to win its first two games of the season, but now the Saints have won two more ballgames in less than 24 hours.
The Class 3A 10th-ranked Saints cruised by Knoxville, 73-41, Saturday afternoon at Ron Thillen Gynasium.
The victory came less than 24 hours after the Saints defeated Iowa City High Friday night and raised Xavier's record to 4-6.
Matt Mims popped in three 3-pointers and led the Saints with 18 points and nine assists. Max Techau scored 17 points and Nolan Butkowski chipped in with 10.
Xavier led by only two points at halftime, 31-29, but the Saints outscored their visitors 28-9 in the third period to take control and held Knoxville to three points in the final stanza.
