Kirkwood baseball coach Tim Evans suspended

New Kirkwood Community College baseball coach Tim Evans was suspended from his job for one week this fall, KCC athletic director Doug Wagemester confirmed Tuesday.

Wagemester declined to say why Evans was suspended, but sources told the Metro Sports Report he was suspended for verbal abuse of Kirkwood baseball players.

Two sources said there was an incident involving Evans this fall when Kirkwood had a scrimmage against Blackhawk Community College. According to the sources, parents of players on both teams complained to Kirkwood officials about Evans allegedly using obscene and vulgar language within earshot of parents.

"All I can tell you is that there's been an issue with the baseball team that's been handled internally," Wagemester said. "I'd prefer not to get into details with it. I would confirm that there's been a suspension.

"The bottom line is, the administration took a look at things from all angles and had reason to believe there was enough information there that some changes had to be made," Wagemester said. "And so we made Tim aware of those and he agreed to the paremeters that were put out there."

Evans was named Kirkwood's new baseball coach in July. He succeeded John Lewis, who retired as head coach. Evans played for Lewis at Kirkwood and also played pro baseball.

Wagemester said Evans will continue to serve as Kirkwood's head coach.

Evans was unavailable for comment.
