Jacey Wiebold tossed a one-hitter Tuesday as the Xavier Saints opened the softball season with a 10-0 victory over Washington in the first game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Xavier.

The Saints took the nightcap, 12-3.

Wiebold struck out six batters and did not walk anyone in the opener. The game was stopped in the fifth inning by the 10-run mercy rule.

Syd Galligan was 2-for-3 with a triple for the Saints in the first game. Jenna Schulte went 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored two runs.

Erin Drahozal collected the victory for Xavier in the second game. She allowed three runs on eight hits, with five strikeouts and no walks.

Schulte had a double, home run and three runs scored in the nightcap, making her 4-for-5 in the doubleheader. Galligan went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs. Courtney Colston was 2-for-4 with two runs and Jamie Feltes was 2-for-4.

Xavier is ranked No. 9 in Class 4A in the first poll of the season. There are five classes for girls softball this year, with the Saints now in the second-largest class.
