Jefferson senior Hannah Petersen led her team to a softball sweep of Waterloo East at the J-Hawk diamond Wednesday night.

Petersen scattered four hits, struck out 13, and had a game-winning double in the No. 8 J-Hawks' 3-1 victory in the opener. Petersen's bases-loaded triple keyed a 13-0, three-inning romp in the nightcap.

With the opening game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Maddie Koolbeck lined a two-out single to right field. Petersen followed with a double to deep right field that plated the go-ahead run.

“She was throwing me inside, so I just turned on it," Petersen said of the game-winning swing.

Petersen had to work her way out a jam in the top of the seventh as the first two Trojan hitters reached base.

"I just had to relax, the defense has me,” Petersen said.

And relax she did, striking out the next hitter, coaxing a small pop-up to herself, and getting a weak grounder to second to seal the victory.

In the nightcap, Jefferson sent 16 hitters to the plate in the first inning and jumped on East for 11 runs  on its way to  13-0 mercy rule victory. Petersen hit another bomb to right field for a bases loaded triple to lead the way.

“It was the same pitch as in the first game,” Petersen said.

Alissa Good scattered three hits for Jeff (3-1, 3-1 MVC). Maddie Hansen and Kailey Drake each drove in three runs for the J-Hawks.
