Marion sweeps wild twinbill from Solon

Pitchers beware!

Marion hosted Solon Wednesday night in Wamac Conference baseball and after 49 hits and 19 errors by both teams, the Indians managed to win both games.

Marion captured the opener, 15-5, in six innings and took the nightcap, 12-11, by scoring five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

In the second game, Marion left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and had Christian Stekl thrown out at the plate by Solon right fielder Colton Dall.

Solon plated two runs in the top of the eighth with an RBI single by Todd Oberthien and a successful double steal. Marion tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with a Mitch Wagner RBI single and a Solon error.

Solon scored four times in the ninth, but Marion tallied five runs in the bottom of the ninth on only one hit to get the victory.

Marion scored 15 runs on 14 hits and eight Solon errors in the opener. Alex Charipar led the Indians with six hits in the marathon doubleheader.

“I just tried to put the barrel of the bat on the ball and put it in play,” said Charipar. “We all seemed to hit well tonight.”

Stekl and Cale Cannoy had five hits apiece for Marion (11-3, 6-1). Colton Dall led Solon with six hits.

Levi Lochner got the win in the first game, going the distance and allowing five runs on 11 hits. Josh Davila got the win in the nightcap in relief.

“We saw a lot of different game situations tonight and despite the fact that we made seven errors in that second game, we found a way to win,” said Marion Coach Steve Fish. “I was pleased that we just kept playing.”
