The Cedar Rapids Kennedy volleyball team defeated an old nemesis Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Kennedy.

The Cougars trimmed 10th-ranked Iowa City West in a five-set marathon for a small measure of revenge, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 16-25, 15-12.

Kennedy lost heartbreakers to Iowa City West in the semifinals of the state tournament in each of the last three years.

The Women of Troy defeated the Cougars in five games in the semifinals in 2011 en route to the state title, they clipped the Cougars in four games in the semifinals in 2010 en route to the state crown, and they beat the Cougars in five games in 2009 when they finished second in the state meet.

This time, Kennedy held a slight upper hand.

Jordan Calef collected 20 kills, 11 digs, six blocks and six assists for the Cougars. Breanna Boote had 46 assists, 13 digs and nine kills and went 22 for 22 on serves.

Lexi Rogers finished with 19 kills. Eric Coker had 16 digs and 10 kills. Madi Meier had 23 digs and seven assists and was 20 for 20 on serves.
