Greve commits to Barry University

Linn-Mar High School pitcher Nate Greve has committed to play college baseball at Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla., he said Thursday morning.

Greve compiled a 7-3 record with a 1.34 ERA this past season and helped the Lions (29-12) reach the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state tournament.

Greve, a left-hander, struck out 82 batters in 41 2/3 innings and held opponents to a .176 batting average. He also hit .373 for the Lions, but will be a pitcher in college.

Greve attended a baseball camp at Barry last November. They offered him a scholarship a few months ago and he committed on Wednesday.

"They've got what I want to do in college, and they've got a good baseball program," he said.

Greve said he wants to study international business and marketing. He also likes the idea of playing college baseball in Florida.

Greve said he had offers from Morehead State (Ky.), Lindenwood University (Mo.), Union College (Ky.) and Heartland Community College (Ill.).

Barry is an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Sunshine State Conference. The team finished 23-22 last season.
