Hembera collects double-double for CVC girls

REINBECK - Sophomore Shelby Hembera scored 22 points and snared 18 rebounds for the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team Monday night in a 70-47 loss at Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the season opener for both teams.

Lindsey Cach scored 12 points for the Huskies.

Cedar Valley Christian has six girls on its team this year all of them scored in Monday's game. Annie McElree, Izzy Hoffman and Dominique Eniola had four points apiece. Megan Slagle hit a free throw and scored one point.

Cedar Valley Coach Craig Foote said Gladbrook-Reinbeck borrowed a page from Grinnell College and used a high-tempo system with constant five-player substitutions.

"They were running hockey-line changes every 45 seconds against our six girls," he reported.

CEDAR VALLEY CHRISTIAN (47): Hembera 9 4-7 22, McElree 1 2-4 4, Slagle 0 1-2 1, Hoffman 2 0-1 4, Cach 4 4-4 12, Eniola 2 0-0 4. Totals 18 11-18 47.
