It didn't take long for Kennedy's basketball team to creep onto the radar screen of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Cougars (1-0) jumped into the Class 5A rankings at No. 9 in the polls released Thursday.

Kennedy replaced Prairie (2-1) in the poll. The Hawks were ranked No. 9 in the preseason, but lost to No. 3  Muscatine in their season opener and dropped out of the poll.

Xavier (3-0) remains the No. 4 team in Class 4A.
