Heying wins Metro Spotlight Award

Xavier senior Halle Heying is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Heying is the libero for the fifth-ranked Xavier volleyball team, which will face No.3 West Delaware in the Class 4A regional finals Tuesday night in Dyersville.

Heying ranks second in Class 4A with 616 digs. She also has collected 44 aces for the Saints (28-10).

Xavier won the Valley Division title in the Mississippi Valley Conference with a perfect 6-0 record.

Here is our Question-&-Answer session with Halle Heying:

MSR: What is your favorite individual highlight in sports?

HALLE: One individual highlight in sports was when I got 42 digs when we upset Cedar Falls earlier this season. We beat them in their own gym three games to zero and that helped us set the zone for the season.

MSR: What is your favorite team highlight in sports?

HALLE: Going undefeated in the MVC division and being champions two years in a row.

MSR: Who has had the greatest influence on your sports career?

HALLE: My parents pushed me to believe in myself and always taught me to never give up on my dreams. They have never missed any of my games and they always help out my coach with scouting teams and making meals for team dinners. They have always had faith in me.

MSR: What are your favorite classes in school?

HALLE: My favorite classes in school are trigonometry and I'm currently taking a composition class at Kirkwood and it's really interesting for me.

MSR: What has been your favorite community service project?

HALLE: With my volleyball team we hosted a party for little children to donate our time and we made gingerbread houses and Christmas ornaments and played a lot of games. It was really fun because I didn't realize how much little kids look up to us. It also was really fun to bring out my childish side while playing with the kids.
