Bohannon wins Metro Spotlight Award

Linn-Mar sophomore Jordan Bohannon is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Bohannon leads the Linn-Mar basketball team in scoring (18.0), rebounding (4.5) and assists (3.4), an unusual triple for a 6-foot-1 guard.

Bohannon ranks fourth in the Mississippi Valley Conference in scoring behind Jacob Olson of Jefferson (22.1), Wyatt Lohaus of Iowa City West (20.4) and Kyle Haber of Dubuque Senior (20.3). Olson, Lohaus and Haber are all seniors.

Bohannon is the fourth member of his family to star at Linn-Mar. His older brothers Jason, Zach and Matt all went from Linn-Mar to college careers. Jason starred at Wisconsin, Zach is currently a senior at Wisconsin and Matt is a sophomore at the University of Northern Iowa.

Jordan Bohannon has already received a scholarship offer from Northern Iowa.

Here is our Question-&-Answer session with Jordan Bohannon:

MSR: What has been your favorite individual highlight in sports?

JORDAN: My favorite individual highlight in high school so far would have to be when I had seven assists and 27 points against Waterloo East earlier this season and most importantly, winning the game.

MSR: What is your favorite team highlight in sports?

JORDAN: My favorite team highlight is a toss-up. I could go with when we went to Southeast Polk on a Saturday and knocked them off on their home court. Or when we drove all the way to Sioux City North and came out with the win. Either way, both those wins boosted our team chemistry and overall confidence, and that's big for any athlete/team, to have your confidence sky high and knowing you'll play your best game every night and come out with the win.

MSR: Who has had the biggest influence on your sports career?

JORDAN: This is a very difficult question for me to answer because I have had a lot of people that have influenced my career in athletics. But, it all started with my dad, teaching me everything my brothers know and him doing the same for me. He has been there every step of the way.

All three of my older brothers as well have made a tremendous impact on me. Their experience at the college level is just an extraordinary advantage for me to have. They know what it takes to get to the next level and they have worked with me non-stop so I can achieve that dream I have of playing Division I basketball.

MSR: What are your future goals in sports?

JORDAN: No question it would be to play Division I basketball at the highest level I am capable. However, I am more concentrated and zoned in on getting to state and winning that state title.

MSR: What are your favorite classes in school?

JORDAN: My favorite subjects in school are probably business or science. However, I'm not for sure what I would like to pursue in college.

MSR: What has been your favorite community service project?

JORDAN: Working the Linn-Mar little kids basketball camps for sure in the summer. I really enjoy working with kids and hopefully inspire them to reach their full potential, whether it's through basketball or something else they are interested in.
