Coe splits twinbill with Cornell

No. 9 Coe and Cornell split a softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Clark Field on the Coe campus.

The visitors (6-5) scored four runs in the top of the ninth on Kendra Christensen's grand slam to take the opener, 7-3. The Kohawks battled back to take the nightcap 5-2.

Danielle Schlotterbeck had a 3-run homer in the first for Coe. Each team scored three in the first inning and neither scored again until Christensen's grand slam in the ninth.

Brianna Gardner had two hits for Coe.

In Game 2, Nicole Gentile was 3-for-3 with a pair of homers and a double, driving home four runs in a game called due to darkness after 5 1/2 innings. Arrran Weeces picked up the win, allowing 2 runs on six hits.

Coe (14-3) returns to action Saturday, hosting Ripon in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
