Brady Anderson wins Metro Spotlight Award

Linn-Mar senior Brady Anderson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Anderson, one of the top tennis players in the state, cruised to the Class 2A title in singles last year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Charlie Humes of Pleasant Valley.

Anderson would have been one of the favorites for the state singles title again this year, but he's elected to play in the state doubles tournament with Trevor McCann for the Lions. Anderson and McCann won a district title in doubles this past Thursday and qualified for the state meet May 30-31 at the Veterans Memorial Tennis Center in Cedar Rapids.

Anderson plans to continue his tennis career at Coe College, which won the Iowa Conference title this year and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Here is our Question-&-Answer session with Brady Anderson:

MSR: What is your favorite individual highlight in sports?

BRADY: Winning state last year was something I'll never forget, the culmination of a lot of hard work and help from my coaches, friends and family.

MSR: What is your favorite team highlight in sports?

BRADY: My sophomore year when Linn-Mar qualified for team state for the first time in over 10 years and finished third.

MSR: What are your future goals in sports?

BRADY: Become the best player I can be at Coe College to win a team and individual Division III championship.

MSR: Who has had the biggest influence on your sports career?

BRADY: My father definitely. He's always pushed me and encouraged me in every sport and he loves sports in general, and that makes me want to succeed all the more.

MSR: What are your favorite classes in school?

BRADY: My favorite class is probably AP statistics.

MSR: What has been your favorite community service project?

BRADY: Volunteering in teaching little kids tennis. I remember my days as a junior when I looked up to the high school players, so giving back to them now is a great feeling.
