No.8 Prairie Hawks sweep Tigers

The eighth-ranked Prairie baseball team parlayed good hitting, good pitching and good defense into a pair of victories over Cedar Falls Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Prairie.

The Hawks won the first game, 9-0, and captured the nightcap, 8-1.

Ethan Copeland went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs in the 9-0 victory. Cal Clark and Cooper Reittinger had two hits, with Clark collecting a triple. Jared Cadena drove in two runs.

Drew Yanecek struck out seven batters and got the victory for Prairie in the first game. The Hawks exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning to take command.

Clark went 3-for-3 and had two RBIs in the 8-1 verdict in the second game. Nic Mougin and Copeland had two hits. Tyler Nunemaker was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts.

Prairie scored 17 runs on 21 hits in the doubleheader and held Cedar Falls to one run on five hits. In addition, Prairie did not commit a single error in the twinbill.

Prairie raised its records to 14-4 overall and 9-3 in the Mississippi Valley Conference. Cedar Falls fell to 12-6 overall and 10-5 in the league.
