Cal Clark of Cedar Rapids Prairie is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday night.
Clark, a junior, has blossomed into one of the top high school baseball players in the Metro area this year. He is hitting .448 for the Hawks and ranks third in the Mississippi Valley Conference with 25 RBIs.
Clark anchors the Prairie defense at shortstop, is 16-for-16 in stolen bases and has an on-base mark of 50.9 percent. He has four doubles and four triples.
Prairie is ranked fifth in Class 4A with a 25-5 overall record and 18-4 mark in the league. The Hawks are on the verge of clinching the first Mississippi Valley Conference title in school history and are near the all-time school records for the most overall victories in one season (27) and the most MVC wins in one season (19).
Clark hit .262 for Prairie last year as a sophomore and has raised his batting average nearly 200 points this year.
