No. 1 Williamsburg boys handle Marion

WILLIAMSBURG – The Marion boys basketball team gave the Class 3A top-ranked Williamsburg Raiders a challenge, but lost 43-36 Friday at Williamsburg.

The Indians (12-6) trailed by just one point, 20-19, at halftime and they held the Raiders (16-1) to 12 field goals in the game.

But Williamsburg pulled away in the second half and shot 16-of-22 from the free-throw line. Marion shot just 5-of-10.

Jacob Manderscheid scored nine points and Craig Engle added eight for the Indians.

Marion - Boys Basketball

Xavier girls climb to 7th in 4A

The Xavier girls basketball team continued its climb in the Class 4A rankings by jumping from No. 9 to No. 7, the IGHSAU announced Thursday.

The Saints have compiled a 13-5 record, primarily against Class 5A competition.

The Marion Indians (16-4) remained 13th in the Class 4A poll. The Kennedy Cougars (13-5) stayed No. 8 in the 5A rankings.

The top-ranked teams are Waukee in 5A, Harlan in 4A, Mediapolis in 3A, Unity Christian in 2A and Burlington Notre Dame in 1A.

Engle nets 30 as Indians roll

INDEPENDENCE - Craig Engle scored 30 points to lead Marion to a 63-41 Wamac Conference boys basketball win over Independence on Tuesday night.

Engle connected on 2 3-point field goals as the Indians buildt a 37-20 halftime lead. No other Marion player finished in double figures. The Indians are 12-5, 8-4 Wamac).

Spencer Pink led Independence (2-15, 1-11) with 8 points.

CPU upsets Marion boys, 57-49

CENTER POINT – The Stormin’ Pointers from Center Point-Urbana went on a 17-7 run in the third quarter and beat the Marion boys basketball team, 57-49, Saturday at Center Point-Urbana.

Craig Engle shot 13-of-13 from the free-throw line and finished with 26 points for the Marion Indians (11-5). He was the only Marion player to score in double digits.

Mason McCauley scored 14 points to lead Center Point-Urbana (5-11).

Marion boys clipped by Clear Creek

Drew Wagner poured in 25 points Friday night as Clear Creek-Amana topped Marion, 61-51, in a Wamac Conference basketball game at Marion.

The Clippers (12-4) got revenge against the Indians (11-4) for a home-court loss to Marion in December.

Jacob Manderscheid led Marion with 14 points. Craig Engle scored 12.

Jake Naubauer and Cal Miller both made four 3-pointers for Clear Creek-Amana. Neubauer scored 14 points and Miller had 12.
