Heying wins Metro Spotlight Award

Xavier senior Halle Heying is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Heying is the libero for the fifth-ranked Xavier volleyball team, which will face No.3 West Delaware in the Class 4A regional finals Tuesday night in Dyersville.

Heying ranks second in Class 4A with 616 digs. She also has collected 44 aces for the Saints (28-10).

Moa wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Kennedy senior Miles Moa is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Moa, a 5-foot-9, 180-pound tailback, carried the ball 34 times for 300 yards and two touchdowns Friday night as the Cougars upset Iowa City High, 35-14, at Kingston Stadium.

Moa set a school record with his 300 yards. The performance ranks third in Metro history, according to Metro Sports Report records.

Decker wins Metro Spotlight Award

Linn-Mar sophomore Amber Decker is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Decker is one of the premier cross country runners in the state and is ranked No.5 in Class 4A by the Iowa Track Coaches Association.

She won the state qualifying meet in Marshalltown last Thursday by one second with a strong finishing kick, passing two runners down the stretch. She also won the Valley Division title at the Mississippi Valley Conference meet, was named the Valley Division Athlete of the Year and placed second at the MVC Super Meet.

Ulmer wins Metro Spotlight Award

Kenan Ulmer of Cedar Valley Christian is this week's winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Ulmer plays football for Cedar Valley Christian and had a big night for the Huskies during their 70-36 loss at Elkader Central Friday.

Ulmer passed for two touchdowns, ran for two touchdowns, returned a kickoff for a touchdown and ran for three 2-point conversions. He had a hand in all 36 points for his team.

Phillips wins Metro Spotlight Award

Abby Phillips of Marion is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Phillips, a 5-foot-3 junior, is one of the top volleyball players in the Wamac Conference. She leads the league with 502 digs and ranks fourth in Class 4A in that category.

Phillips has already broken the Marion career record for digs with a full season left to play with the 11th-ranked Indians. She has helped Marion compile a 24-14 record and reach the semifinals of the Wamac Conference tournament this season.
