Christensen, Bruce power Warriors past J-Hawks

Zach Christensen shot a 499 series and Quincy Bruce a 480 to power Washington past Jefferson, 3169-2865, Friday in boys bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Christensen shot games of 268 and 231. Bruce fired games of 236 and 244.

Kyle Kaness shot a 418 series and Bryan Cline a 402 for the Warriors.

Zach Ficken led Jefferson with a 238 high game and 426 series. Christian Hindt shot a 416 series and 234 high game.

J-Hawks rout Warriors on the mat

CEDAR FALLS - Jefferson got six forfeits and recorded two pins en route to a 55-20 pasting of Washington in wrestling Thursday night at Cedar Falls.

Cedar Falls beat both teams.

Josh Allen (170) and Randy Deaton (195) had pins for the J-Hawks against Washington. Luke Sedlacek (160) won by a major decision and Cody Hensel (132) by decision.

Zac Gillis (285) had a fall for Washington. JP Mercado (152) won by technical fall and Devin Dills (120) by decision.

Stromert leads J-Hawk girls at Wahlert

DUBUQUE -- Dani Stromert scored 13 points to lead Jefferson past Dubuque Wahlert, 57-49, Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Wahlert.

Kaitlyn Davidson and Rachel Broghammer added 10 points apiece for the J-Hawks (2-4, 1-2).

Freshman Amanda Ollinger came off the bench to score nine points for Jefferson.

Olson, Kramer spark J-Hawks by Wahlert

Jacob Olson poured in 25 points Tuesday night and Ky Kramer scored 22 as the Jefferson J-Hawks spanked Dubuque Wahlert, 62-44, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at the Jefferson gym.

Olson and Kramer outscored the Golden Eagles by themselves, 47-44, as the J-Hawks ran their record to 2-0. Olson made all 10 of his free throws and Kramer was 7-for-7 at the foul line.

Cordell Pemsl scored 22 points for Wahlert (0-3).

Koolbeck scores 19 in Jeff loss

WEST DES MOINES – Maddie Koolbeck scored 19 points but Jefferson was upended by No. 8 West Des Moines Valley, 66-46, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference girls basketball game.

The loss the J-Hawks' third of the week and dropped their record to 1-4.

Jefferson tallied only 11 field goals and Koolbeck had six. The J-Hawks were 23 of 31 from the free-throw line.

J-Hawks 11th at rugged Keith Young

CEDAR FALLS - Kyle Briggs finished second at 106 pounds to lead Jefferson to an 11th place finish Saturday at the Keith Young Invitational wrestling meet.

The meet featured five of the top 10 teams in Class 3A. No. 8 North Scott won the meet with 191.5 points. No. 3 Bettendorf was second with 190.

Other ranked teams in the field were Waverly-Shell Rock, Pleasant Valley and West Des Moines Dowling in 3A, Denver-Tripoli and Charles City in 2A and Don Bosco in 1A.

Jefferson finished 11th with 79.5 points. Kennedy was 16th with 22.

Swimmers enjoy unusual J-Hawk Relays

Dylan Casey of Kennedy swam 100 yards Saturday with his eye goggles around his nose, but was able to laugh about it later.

For one thing, the Cougars set a record in the 300-yard backstroke relay with Casey swimming the anchor leg. And for another, the annual J-Hawk Relays are a fun meet with a variety of different events that you don't see anywhere else.

"It's a fun event to come to," said Casey. "It's a lot less stress. You can enjoy yourself while you're swimming. If you drop times, it's great. It you don't, it's no big deal."

Jefferson girls tripped by Cedar Falls

Madison Wood scored 17 points to lead Cedar Falls past Jefferson, 53-47, Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Jefferson.

Maddie Koolbeck scored 16 points and Dani Stromert 11 for Jefferson (1-3, 0-2).

Jefferson shot only 29.4 percent from the field, making only 15 of 51 shots.

Big Baker game lifts J-Hawks past Prairie

Jefferson rolled to a 35-pin win in the fifth Baker game and escaped Prairie, 3052-3018, Friday in boys bowling at May City Bowl.

The J-Hawks held a 44-pin lead after singles in the first round, but Prairie whittled away and held a one-pin margin heading into the final Baker game.

Jefferson responded with a 205, while Prairie managed a 170.

Both teams shot hot, with four 400 series apiece.

Alff, James lead J-Hawk girls past Prairie

Jessie Alff rolled a 412 series and Lindsey James a 234 high game to lead Jefferson past Prairie, 2845-2620, Friday in girls bowling at May City Bowl.

James finished with a 395 series. Alff tossed a 213 game. Nicole Petersen shot a 214 game and 383 series for the J-Hawks.

Rylea Blood led Prairie with a 190 high game and 376 series. Hailey Tollefson also shot a 190 for the Hawks.
