Lions net 31 runs, take Valley lead

The Linn-Mar Lions exploded for 31 runs Tuesday and took sole possession in the race for the Valley Division title in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

The Lions belted Waterloo West, 12-1 in five innings and 19-4 in four innings, at the Linn-Mar baseball complex.

Justin Wyant pitched a no-hitter in the 12-1 victory.

Linn-Mar raised its records to 16-6 in the Valley Division and 21-12 overall. The Lions have a one-game lead on Prairie (14-6) in the Valley Division. Prairie was postponed Tuesday and was scheduled to play a makeup twinbill at Dubuque Senior on Wednesday.

Lions take 3rd in Valley Division

The Linn-Mar Lions swept a softball doubleheader from Cedar Falls Monday and finished in third place in the Valley Division standings in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

The Lions won, 6-4 and 16-6 in six innings.

Alexis Kelsey went 3-for-4 in the 6-4 victory and was the winning pitcher. Madison Rentschler and Kelsey Duggan had two hits.

Lions rout Clinton in softball

Maddy Ryan had three doubles and drove in four runs at the plate, and also pitched a five-hitter, to lead Linn-Mar to a 13-4 win over Clinton in a non-conference softball game at Linn-Mar.

Alexis Kelsey was 3-for-3, scored three runs and drovve in three for the Lions (14-21). She had a pair of doubles and a triple. Madison Rentschler also had a triple and two RBIs.

Linn-Mar scored five runs in the first inning and added six more in the fifth.

Ryan tosses shutout as Lions sweep

Maddy Ryan pitched a five-hit shutout as the Linn-Mar Lions blanked Dubuque Wahlert, 11-0 in five innings, in the second game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Linn-Mar Tuesday night.

The Lions also won the first game, 10-8.

Elison Ollinger went 2-for-2, scored two runs and drove in two runs for Linn-Mar in the 11-0 victory. Alexis Kelsey and Hannah Yearling had two RBIs. Christina Lincoln had two hits.

Lions swat Waterloo East twice

WATERLOO - Linn-Mar scored 12 runs in each game and swept past Waterloo East, 12-1 and 12-5, to take over first place in the Valley Division baseball race in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

Austin Stroschein and Michael Bogert combined to throw a one-hitter in the five-inning opener.

Jimmy Roth was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and Brandt Ollinger was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs. Mitch Stickney also homered for the Lions (19-12, 14-6).

Kyle Mortensen homered and drove in three runs in the nightcap, and Jack Strellner drove in four runs for Linn-Mar. Roth was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Austin Banks had three hits.
