Sommer leads Lions past Wahlert, 53-44

DUBUQUE - Katie Sommer scored 21 points and Olivia Montague added 11 to carry Linn-Mar past Dubuque Wahlert, 53-44, Tuesday night in Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball.

Sommer cracked the 1,000-point barrier in her career, which started at Dubuque Senior. She has 1,013 points.

Aryn Jones added eight points for the Lions (9-4, 6-3). Linn-Mar again played without Kristie Sommer, who is out with an injury.

Jade Lynch scored 24 points for Wahlert.

Lions swamp City High, 118-51

Calvin Greve won two individual events and Linn-Mar claimed firsts in nine of 11 events to overpower Iowa City High, 118-51, Tuesday night in boys swimming at Linn-Mar.

Greve won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.

Linn-Mar's John Roggendorf won the 50 free and also swam on two winning relays.

Duggan Trenary and Kyle McNeal won individual events and swam on winning relays also for the Lions.

Trenary wins butterfly in Waterloo

WATERLOO - Duggan Trenary captured the 100 yard butterfly Saturday to help the Linn-Mar Lions place a tight second at the Waterloo West Invitational.

Iowa City West won the four-team meet with 352 points with Linn-Mar just 11 points behind.

Calvin Greve placed second in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke for the Lions. Zach Hendricks finished second in the 100 butterfly behind Trenary. The Lions also took second in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Linn-Mar upends No.7 Sioux City North

SIOUX CITY - Nic Uhlir popped in 20 points and Jordan Bohannon added 16 Saturday night as the Linn-Mar Lions upset No.7 Sioux City North, 66-61, at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City.

The Lions trailed, 48-46, entering the fourth quarter before going on a 20-point binge to secure the victory.

Bohannon hit four 3-pointers for Linn-Mar (5-4) and helped the cause with six rebounds and four assists. Uhlir nailed a pair of triples. Ben Larson grabbed eight rebounds.

Griffin Brennecke, sidelined since before the holidays with a concussion, returned to action for the Lions and scored nine points.

Holladay helps wounded Lions take 3rd

Andrew Holladay has gotten a little bigger, a little stronger and a little better ever since he joined the Linn-Mar wrestling program as a freshman in 2010.

Now a senior, he's ranked No.3 in Class 3A at 195 pounds with a sparkling 17-0 record after winning all five of his matches Saturday at the Linn-Mar Duals.

Holladay defeated a pair of ranked wrestlers from Ankeny Centennial and Clinton and finished his day with back-to-back pins. It was an impressive performance, but Holladay sounded a little underwhelmed by his achievement.

"It wasn't too bad," he said modestly. "It could have been a little better, though."
