Manderscheid leads Indians by South Tama

Jacob Manderscheid scored 16 points to lead the Marion boys basketball team in a low-scoring 46-30 win over South Tama in a Wamac game Friday at Marion.

The Indians led just 19-15 at halftime, but pulled away in the second half.

Noah Walter added 10 points for Marion (8-10, 6-6).

Wade Brown scored eight points for the Trojans (4-14, 3-9).

No. 7 Marion girls dump South Tama

TAMA – Chloe Rice scored 12 points to lead the seventh-ranked Marion girls basketbal team to a 55-35 win over South Tama in a Wamac Conference game Friday at South Tama.

Mia Laube scored 10 points for the Indians (14-4, 11-1) and Sophie Willette added nine points.

South Tama fell to 9-10 overall and 5-7 in the Wamac.

 

Cougars 7th, Lions 8th in girls rankings

The Kennedy girls basketball team fell from No. 6 to No. 7 in the latest Class 5A rankings, released Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Linn-Mar claimed the No. 8 spot in Class 5A, moving up from No. 10 last week. Washington stayed 15th.

Marion maintained its No. 7 ranking in Class 4A from a week ago.

Marion grapplers stick Davenport West

The Marion wrestling team toppled Davenport West, 52-24, in a non-conference dual meet Thursday at Vernon Middle School.

Braden Garringer (126 pounds), Mason Hiler (132), Colin Conway (152) and Keanu Quinn (195) had pins for the Indians.

3 Marion athletes heading to college

Three female athletes from Marion High School plan to continue their careers in college next year.

Alyssa Thomas will continue her volleyball career at the University of Minnesota at Crookston.

Olivia Frazier plans to play volleyball at Cincinnati Christian University.

Madison Bach will be joining the cross country program at Iowa Central Community College.
