Saints, Indians hold spots in rankings

The Xavier Saints remained in the No.7 spot and the Marion Indians held firm in the No.10 position in the latest Class 4A volleyball rankings, the IGHSAU announced Thursday.

Bettendorf is ranked No.1 in Class 5A. There are no Metro schools in the 5A rankings.

Harlan is ranked No.1 in Class 4A, Carroll Kuemper is No.1 in Class 3A, Dike-New Hartford is No.1 in Class 2A and Holy Trinity is No.1 in Class 1A.

Marion runners excel at Washington

WASHINGTON, Iowa - The Marion High School cross country teams enjoyed a triumphant day at the Washington (Iowa) Invitational Tuesday.

Madison Bach won the girls 4K race in 16 minutes, 28.29 seconds, beating the runnerup by more than 25 seconds.

The Marion boys placed four runners in the Top 10 of their 5K race and edged Fort Madison for the title, 38-40.

Marion trims Williamsburg in volleyball

Amanda Sahm dished out 51 assists and Alyssa Thomas had 22 kills Tuesday night as the 10th-ranked Marion Indians edged Williamsburg, 25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 16-14, in a Wamac Conference volleyball match at Marion.

Thomas had nine of her kills in the decisive fifth game.

Olivia Frazier collected 11 kills for Marion. Johanna Steggall and Kaela Halvorson had eight apiece.

Marion Hall of Fame gets 8 new members

Marion High School will induct eight new members into its Athlete Hall of Fame Friday prior to the homecoming football game against Benton Community at Thomas Park.

The five athletes who will be inducted are Garth Hunter (1934), Russ Seeks (1952), Bob Hoglund (1963), Whitney Perkins (2005) and Matt Holland (2006).

Lori Dostal will enter the Hall of Fame as a coach. Bob Hoyt and Doug Hutchins will be inducted as community members.

Marion boys win Independence title

INDEPENDENCE - The Marion Indians placed five runners in the top 15 Saturday and captured top honors at the Independence Invitational cross country meet.

Colton Forster finished second for Marion in the individual standings with a time of 17 minutes, 44 seconds for 5 kilomoters. Jacob Manderscheid finished 7th, Jordan Garthwaite 10th, Maverick Miller 12th and Hunter Reifschneider 15th for the Indians.

Marion finished with 46 points. Waterloo Columbus placed second in the nine-team field with 73 points.
