No. 5 Marion falls to No. 3 CPU

CENTER POINT – Class 3A third-ranked Center Point-Urbana handed the Class 4A fifth-ranked Marion girls basketball team a 58-42 loss Friday.

Chloe Rice scored 23 points to lead the Indians (5-2) and Mia Laube added eight points.

Arika Wooldrige scored 21 points to lead the Stormin’ Pointers (8-0).

MARION (42): Knapp 1 2-5 4, Rice 7 8-8 23, Smith 1 0-0 3, Wright 0 0-0 0, Dunne 0 0-0 0, Laube 3 2-2 8, Willette 0 0-0 0, Herold 1 0-0 3, Sade 0 1-7 1, Jordan 0 0-0 0. Totals 13 13-19 42.

Marion boys fall to Center Point

The Marion boys basketball team fell behind 10-2 at the start and lost to Center Point-Urbana, 64-44, Friday at Marion.

Jacob Manderscheid had 15 points to lead the Indians, who fell to 2-5.

Grant Dirks scored 14 points for the Stormin’ Pointers (4-3).

Meister leads Marion bowlers to win

Nate Meister rolled a 207 game and a 389 series as the Marion boys bowling team edged Independence 2,808 pins to 2,719 Thursday at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Jarrett Steward also had a 207 game and finished with a 381 series for the Indians.

Connor Joblinski had a 426 series for Independence.

Smith paces Marion girls in bowling

Bre Smith had a 396 series to lead the Marion girls bowling team to a 2,365 to 1,882 win over Independence on Thursday at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Smith had a 205 high game.

Lainy Kuper rolled a 268 series for Independence.

Marion grapplers split double-dual

TIFFIN – The Marion wrestling team split a double-dual Tuesday at Clear Creek Amana, beating the Clippers 45-28 and losing to South Tama 60-18.

Colin Conway had pins against Clear Creek Amana at 160 pounds and Marion at 152.

Caleb Conway (152) and Keanu Quinn (195) also had pins against the Clippers. Zach Cochran had a pin at 120 against South Tama.
