Perkins helps Marion top Linn-Mar

Paige Perkins went 4-for-4 and drove in two runs as the Marion Indians trimmed Linn-Mar, 4-2, Friday in the completion of a suspended prep softball game from May 25.

Beth Knapp collected three hits and Haley Vanourney had two hits for the Indians. Cheyenne Hansen went 2-for-3 for the Lions and Lauren Swanson was 2-for-2.

Mikayla Goemaat was the winning pitcher, scattering four hits.

Marion sweeps wild twinbill from Solon

Pitchers beware!

Marion hosted Solon Wednesday night in Wamac Conference baseball and after 49 hits and 19 errors by both teams, the Indians managed to win both games.

Marion captured the opener, 15-5, in six innings and took the nightcap, 12-11, by scoring five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

In the second game, Marion left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and had Christian Stekl thrown out at the plate by Solon right fielder Colton Dall.

Marion falls to No. 1 Solon

The Marion Indians became Solon's 12th straight victim Wednesday night.

The Class 3A top-ranked Spartans defeated the Indians, 10-1, in a Wamac Conference softball game at Marion.

Michalyn Mohr hit a solo home run for Marion (5-7).

Marion puts 9 on all-Wamac soccer

Nine soccer players from Marion High School have been named to the Wamac Conference all-star squads this season in the West Division.

Ryan Hagen was a first-team pick on the boys all-conference squad. Enoch Duval was named to the second team, while Spencer Henessee and Matthew Minks received honorable mention.

Lexie Rael was a first-team choice on the girls all-conference squad. Ashley Iehl and Lauren Rausch were second-team choices. Liz Deeney and Ciera Rodriguez received honorable mention.

Boys West Division Standings

1. Waterloo Columbus 7-0, 2. (tied) Benton Community 5-2, Center Point-Urbana 5-2, Clear Creek Amana 5-2, 5. Williamsburg 3-4, 6. Marion 2-5, 7. Vinton-Shellsburg 1-6, 8. Independence 0-7.

Girls West Division Standings

Evans, Mees, Ophoff top all-Metro track

Josh Evans of Linn-Mar, Lukas Mees of Marion and Brandon Ophoff of Linn-Mar have been named to the 2012 all-Metro boys track team in two individual events.

Evans and Mees were honored in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Ophoff was cited in the 110 high hurdles and 400 low hurdles.

Scott Immerfall of Marion was named the Metro Coach of the Year.

Jordan Houdeshell of Linn-Mar was saluted in four wheelchair events.
