Prairie brooms off Wahlert

Prairie jumped out to early leads in both games and swept a softball doubleheader from Dubuque Wahlert, 5-1 and 9-6, Tuesday at Prairie.

The Hawks scored five runs over the first two innings of the opener to back Katie Kuch's six-hit, eight-strikeout pitching.

Gabi Carter had two hits and an RBI, and Malia Gudenkauf two RBIs.

The Hawks pushed across four runs in the first inning of the nightcap, then tallied five more times over the fourth and fifth innings.

Prairie softball splits with No.4 Rams

DUBUQUE - The Prairie Hawks pushed across a run in the top of the 10th inning Monday and trimmed No.4 Dubuque Senior, 4-3, in the first game of a Mississippi Valley Conference softball doubleheader in Dubuque.

Dubuque Senior won the second game, 8-2.

Katie Kuch tossed all 10 innings in the first game for Prairie (9-7, 5-5). She did not allow a run in eight of those innings and finished with five strikeouts.

Prairie splits with No.3 Iowa City West

IOWA CITY - The Cedar Rapids Prairie baseball team staged a pair of furious seventh-inning rallies Monday in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at No.3 Iowa City West.

The first rally produced an 8-4 victory. The second rally forced extra innings, but Iowa City West prevailed, 12-11, in eight innings in the nightcap.

"We lost the lead in both games, but battled back and had a couple of good seventh innings," Prairie Coach Matt Thede reported. "The guys were confident and trusted we could get it done."

Tyler Butz drove in three runs and Caleb Davison went 2-for-3 for Prairie (9-6, 5-3) in the opener. Brennan Hammer pitched a complete game for the victory.

Linn-Mar, Prairie split MVC twinbill

The Prairie Hawks and Linn-Mar Lions both hope to have strong baseball teams this season, but right now both of them are simply trying to get a little momentum going and get rolling.

They faced each other Friday night and split their Mississippi Valley Conference twinbill at Prairie.

Linn-Mar won the first game, 7-2. Prairie grabbed the nightcap, 8-2.

Warriors gain split with Prairie

Prairie's Katie Kuch fired a one-hit shutout in the opener, but Washington used a four-run second inning to win the nightcap and the teams split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader Thursday night at Washington.

Malia Gudenkauf had three hits for Prairie (8-6, 4-4) in the opener. Mallory Jones had two hits and drove in two runs.

Payton Bruner scattered six hits for Washington (2-9, 1-6) and was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. She also had three hits.

Emily Oler and Megan Jonas had two hits apiece and each drove in a run for the Warriors in the nightcap.
