Strutz, Zielke spark CVC to victory

JANESVILLE - Jeremy Strutz tossed in 27 points and Spencer Zielke scored 21 Thursday night as Cedar Valley Christian broke into the victory column with a 61-34 triumph at Janesville.

Strutz and Zielke both hit three 3-pointers. Jon Landis made one 3-pointer and scored 13 points for the Huskies (1-2).

Cedar Valley Christian led at halftime, 33-17.

Hembera nets double-double for Cedar Valley girls

JANESVILLE - Shelby Hembera had another big game for the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team Thursday night with 18 points and 12 rebounds, but she didn't get nearly enough help from her teammates.

The Huskies lost to Janesville, 55-28.

Cedar Valley Christian has only six girls on its roster this season and one of them, freshman Annie McElree, will be sidelined approximately six weeks with a hip injury. That left the Huskies (0-3) with only five players Thursday, and they played with only four girls on the court for a short spell when one of the girls suffered a leg cramp.

Strutz tosses in 32 for CVC boys

TAMA - Jeremy Strutz poured in 32 points for Cedar Valley Christian Monday night but it wasn't quite enough for the Huskies to come home with a victory.

The Meskwaki Settlement School trimmed the Huskies, 59-52, in Tama.

Strutz made four 3-pointers for Cedar Valley Christian (0-2). Evan Koch chipped in with eight points for the Huskies.

Hembera nets 24 for Cedar Valley girls

TAMA - Shelby Hembera scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds Monday as the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team lost to the Meskwaki Settlement School, 62-41, in Tama.

Lindsay Cach collected nine assists for the Huskies (0-2).

Dia Keahna led Meskawai (3-0) with 29 points.

Cedar Valley Christian freshman Annie McElree suffered a hip injury in the first quarter, leaving the team with only five players for the rest of the game.

Cedar Valley topped by West Branch

SHELLSBURG - The Cedar Valley Christian boys basketball team jumped to a 22-14 lead over West Branch at halftime Thursday night, but the Huskies were not able to hold on.

West Branch rallied for a 50-36 victory over Cedar Valley in Shellsburg.

Jon Landis led the Huskies with 14 points in their season opener. Spencer Zielke chipped in with 10 points and Jeremy Strutz had nine.

Rylan Murry led West Branch (2-0) with 24 points. Cole Cook scored 15.
