Mount Mercy sweeps Peru State

Becca Thompson collected 12 kills and nine digs Saturday as the Mount Mercy women's volleyball team swept Peru State, 25-18, 25-20, 25-14, in a Heart of America Conference match at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Maddie Bell finished with nine kills for the Mustangs. Alyssa Weldon had eight kills, Olivia Coe had six and Olivia Makinen chipped in with five.

Kayla Daggett rolled up 36 assists in three sets. Lauren Stopko had 18 digs and Weldon provided 11. Makinen and Bell blocked four shots.

Mustang women lead Clarke golf

GALENA, Ill. - Casey Noble shot an 8-over-par 80 Saturday as the Mount Mercy women's golf team moved into first place at the Clarke Fall Invitational at the Eagle Ridge South course in Galena, Ill.

The final round is scheduled for Sunday.

Noble has a two-shot lead heading into Day 2. Allyson Wertz of Mount Mercy shot an 84 Saturday and is tied for fourth.

Mount Mercy owns a 14-shot lead over Saint Ambrose heading into the final 18 holes.

Bell helps Mustangs ring Graceland

Maddie Bell blocked eight shots and collected eight kills Friday night as the Mount Mercy women's volleyball team defeated Graceland, 25-20, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, in a Heart of America Conference match at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Alyssa Weldon let the attack at the net with 16 kills for the Mustangs and Olivia Coe had 15. Kayla Daggett rolled up 41 assists in the four sets. Lauren Stopko had 33 digs and Weldon had 11. Daggett blocked five shots.

Mustangs spiked by William Penn

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team let an opportunity for a conference victory slip away Tuesday night.

The Mustangs lost to William Penn, 20-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-19, in a Heart of American Conference match at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Mount Mercy had a 25-24 lead in the third set and needed just one more point to take a 2-1 lead in the match, but the Lady Statesmen rolled off three straight points to grab the third set for themselves in overtime, 27-25.

William Penn took a pair of eight-point leads in the fourth set and sealed the victory from there.

The outcome left both teams with 1-1 records in the conference. Mount Mercy fell to 11-3 overall. William Penn raised its mark to 10-4.

Bruyeres claims Klocke Family Classic

William Bruyeres of Mount Mercy University captured top honors at the Klocke Family Classic golf tournament Sunday at Hunters Ridge.

Bruyeres, a senior from Brisbane, Australia, fired rounds of 67 and 69 in the 36-hole tournament and won the title at 8-under 136.

Ryan Morrison of Kirkwood tied for second place at 4-under 140 with rounds of 71 and 69.

Iowa Western won the men's title by two shots over Indian Hills. Mount Mercy finished in third place, just three shots off the pace. Kirkwood placed fourth out of 15 teams.

Iowa Western also claimed the women's crown. Lisa Lied of Iowa Western was the medalist with rounds of 77 and 71.
