Rylea Bennett wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Jefferson senior Rylea Bennett is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Bennett is one of the top bowlers in the state for the J-Hawks. She carries a 198.4 game average and a 396.9 series average, giving her a slight lead in the Metro area over Rylee Blood of Prairie.

Bennett has been on a roll lately. She bowled a 234 game and 437 series Friday when Jefferson defeated Dubuque Wahlert at May City Bowl, and she had a 254 game and 438 series in a victory over Dubuque Senior Jan. 16 at Cherry Lanes in Dubuque. She also had a 424 series against Kenneday Jan. 6.

Daniels wins Metro Spotlight Award

edar Rapids Kennedy senior Zach Daniels is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Daniels has made a name for himself at Kennedy as an elite all-state baseball player, but he's also a successful basketball player for the Cougars and riding an impressive hot streak.

Daniels scored 22 points and had eight steals in a 77-64 loss at Johnston Tuesday night, then he came back three nights later and scored 22 points with six 3-pointers in a clutch 74-61 victory at Cedar Falls Friday.

Bohannon wins Metro Spotlight Award

Linn-Mar junior Jordan Bohannon is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Bohannon, a 6-foot-1 junior, is one of the top basketball players in the state for the Lions. He leads the Metro in scoring at 16.2 points and also leads the Metro with 35 3-pointers.

Bohannon has college offers from the University of Northern Iowa and Drake. He will become the fourth brother in his family to play Division I college basketball, following Jason (Wisconsin), Zach (Air Force/Wisconsin) and Matt (Northern Iowa).

Botkin wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Kennedy senior Stephanie Botkin is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Botkin, a 6-foot senior, is one of the top basketball players in the Metro area. She has played for the Kennedy varsity since she was a freshman and has amassed 913 points and 494 rebounds in her career, giving her a chance to join the 1,000/500 club before the season is over.

Botkin is averaging 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds this season, the best marks of her career. She has enjoyed games of 27 points against Waterloo West, 25 against Prairie, 21 against Waukee and 20 against Fairfield. She grabbed 12 rebounds against Fairfield and Ames, giving her double-doubles in both games.

Josh Wenger wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Prairie senior Josh Wenger is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Wenger is one of the top wrestlers in the state and is currently ranked No. 2 at 138 pounds with a 28-1 record.

Wenger captured top honors at the Mendenhall Invitational in Ames Saturday, helping Prairie win the team championship in a strong field that included West Des Moines Valley and Waverly-Shell Rock.
