Eagles take 5th at Dubuque golf

DUBUQUE - The Kirkwood Eagles finished fifth out of 18 teams at the University of Dubuque Invitational Sunday at the Dubuque Golf & Country Club.

The University of Dubuque Blue squad won the event with a 36-hole score of 576. Kirkwood finished 40 strokes off the pace at 616.

Nathan Chilcott and Ryan Palser from Kirkwood tied for seventh place at 9-over-par 149. Josh Udelhofen from Clark University was the medalist at 1-under 139 for the 6,058-yard course.

Chilcott paces KCC golfers in Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Nathan Chilcott of Kirkwood Community College fired a 2-over-par 72 Saturday and is tied for fifth place after the first round of the Dubuque Fall Invite at the Dubuque Golf & Country Club.

The Kirkwood Eagles are in fourth place out of 18 teams. The final round will be played Sunday.

Ryan Palser shot a 5-over 75 for Kirkwood.

Williams wins No.250 as Kirkwood rolls

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Jill Williams collected her 250th victory as head coach of the Kirkwood volleyball team Saturday as the Eagles won four straight matches at the Parkland Tournament.

The seventh-ranked Eagles defeated Jackson College (25-20, 25-12, 25-13) and Illinois Central (25-22, 24-26, 15-25, 25-13, 15-9) Friday on the first day of the tournament.

The Eagles swept Vincennes (25-20, 25-15, 25-9) and Southwestern (25-14, 25-16, 25-17) on Saturday.

Kirkwood sweeps to top of ICCAC

The Kirkwood Eagles made quick work of their match against Southeastern Community College Wednesday night in a showdown for the ICCAC lead.

The No.7 Eagles swept the 13th-ranked Blackhawks, 25-14, 25-16, 25-22, in a contest that lasted only 70 minutes at Johnson Hall.

Kirkwood moved into sole possession of the ICCAC lead with a 4-0 record. Southeastern, which began the night with an impressive 21-2 overall mark, fell to 3-1 in the league.

Chilcott medalist at Viking Classic

POLK CITY - Kirkwood's Nathan Chilcott took nine more shots than a day earlier to get around the Tournament Club of Iowa on Tuesday in the final round of the Grand View Viking Classic.

But Chilcott still held on for a three-stroke victory.

Chilcott was medalist and the Eagles finished third in the nine-team event.

Chilcott fires 68 for Kirkwood

POLK CITY - Nathan Chilcott fired a 3-under-par 68 for the Kirkwood Eagles Monday and took a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Grand View Classic at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City.

Ashford University leads the tournament at 290. Kirkwood shot 298 and is in second place in the nine-team event.

Sheldon Gryp shot a 2-over 73 for the Eagles. Ben Jones shot a 75, Ryan Palser 82 and Drew Slings 82.

No.8 Kirkwood slams Indian Hills

OTTUMWA - The eighth-ranked Kirkwood volleyball team defeated Indian Hills, 25-18, 24-26, 25-12, 25-15, in a junior college match Thursday night in Ottumwa.

Alicen Wintermote led a balanced attack with 12 kills and seven blocks for Kirkwood. Erin Walker contributed 10 kills and 15 digs. Heather Poula collected nine kills and 11 digs.

Chelsea Gryp had seven kills and eight digs. Payton Hilton pitched in with seven kills.

No.8 Kirkwood spikers top Southwestern

The Kirkwood volleyball team made their fans nervous Wednesday night when they made too many errors and dropped the first game of their ICCAC match against Southwestern Community College at Johnson Hall.

"I think we made ourselves nervous, too," said freshman Heather Poula.

The eighth-ranked Eagles settled down and rallied for a 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 victory with a balanced attack to remain undefeated in the conference.

Eagles 4th at Cropper Classic

Kirkwood's Nathan Chilcott and Sheldon Gryp tied for sixth place and led the Eagles to a fourth-place finish Sunday at the Cropper Golf Classic, hosted by Mount Mercy at Hunters Ridge.

The Eagles were tied for the lead at 10-over par after Saturday's opening round, but were 24-over in Sunday's round and finished 13 shots behind AIB. Illinois Wesleyan was second and Mount Mercy was third.

Mount Mercy's Ryan Schrimper, a former Linn-Mar prep, lost in a playoff for medalist honors to Viterbo's Bennett Laxton. Both finished the tournament at 2-under par.

Kirkwood shares lead at Cropper Golf

Nathan Chilcott and Ryan Palser fired 72's Saturday to help the Kirkwood Eagles share first place after the first day of the Cropper Golf Classic at Hunters Ridge in Marion.

Kirkwood and Illinois Wesleyan are tied for the top spot in the 19-team field with four-man scores of 298 in the tight standings.

Ryan Schrimper of Mount Mercy shot a 3-under-par 69 to lead the field Saturday. Mount Mercy is hosting the tournament and the Mustangs are in fifth place, just four shots behind the leaders.
