Jeff boys dunked by IC West

IOWA CITY – Royshawn Webb scored 19 points to lead the Jefferson boys basketball team in a 76-50 loss to Iowa City West on Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Iowa City.

The Trojans led 21-4 after the first quarter.

Devontae Lane had 17 points to lead West (6-2).

Jefferson fell to 3-6.

Marion boys fall to Western Dubuque

Jacob Manderscheid scored 18 points and Baylor Fish added 12 as the Marion boys basketball team fell to Western Dubuque, 55-44, Tuesday in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

Jordan Lake had 18 points to lead Western Dubuque (6-2).

Marion fell to 3-6.

Bre Smith wins Metro Spotlight Award

Bre Smith of Marion is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Smith, a senior, is one of the top bowlers in the state. She leads the Metro area with a 204.4 average and ranks fourth among all bowlers in the state.

Smith has rolled a high-game this year of 224 and a high-series of 438.

Mims leads Xavier boys by Prairie

Matthew Mims had 20 points to lead the Xavier boys basketball team to a 65-46 win over Prairie Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Prairie.

Max Techau scored 15 points for the Saints (6-1). Mitchell Burger and Jackson Joens added 14 points apiece. Burger had five steals.

Mims and Joens both hit four 3-pointers. Xavier put the game away with a 21-11 run in the third quarter.

Cal Clark scored 14 points for the Prairie Hawks (4-4) and Jalen Rima added 10.

Wash girls fall to No. 7 City High

IOWA CITY – The Washington girls basketball team started slow and fell to seventh-ranked Iowa City High, 70-59, Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Iowa City.

The Warriors trailed 14-3 after the first quarter and could not catch up, despite a 27-19 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Joniqua Clark and Payton Bruner scored 16 points for the Warriors (5-5).

Kenya Earl led the Little Hawks (8-1) with 23 points and Ashley Joens had 18 points.
