Metro Players in Pro Baseball

The Metro Sports Report provides regular updates on all the Metro graduates in pro baseball. Here is the report through Tuesday, Aug. 4:

SCOTT SCHEBLER (CR Prairie), Oklahoma City, OF, Triple-A, Pacific Coast League (Dodgers): Schebler went 0-for-4 Tuesday in a 7-3 loss to New Orleans. He played center field and hit seventh in the lineup. Schebler is hitting .239 with 11 homers and 39 RBIs.

CHAD CHRISTENSEN (CR Washington), Fort Myers, OF, High-A, Florida State League (Twins): Christensen went 1-for-4 with an RBI Tuesday in a 7-4 loss to St. Lucie. He played right field and hit sixth in the lineup. Christensen is batting .258 with two homers and 31 RBIs.

JON KELLER (CR Xavier), Frederick, P, High-A, Carolina League (Orioles): Jon Keller did not pitch Tuesday. He has a 3-4 record, 3.96 ERA and four saves.

MITCH KELLER (CR Xavier), Bristol, P, Rookie, Appalachian League (Pirates): Mitch Keller did not pitch Tuesday. He has a 0-0 record and 3.00 ERA in one appearance this season.

Curtiss replaces Booser with Kernels

The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday that right-hander John Curtiss has been activated from the 7-day Disabled List and left-hander Cam Booser has been placed on the 7-day DL with a left shoulder impingement.

Curtiss went on the DL May 26 with a right forearm strain. He has made seven starts for the Kernels, posting a 2-3 record and 5.87 ERA.

Booser has made 32 relief appearances, posting a 1-2 record, 3.72 ERA and notching 10 saves. He has 69 strikeouts and 40 walks in 46 innings.

Drake wins Metro Spotlight Award

Kelsey Drake of Linn-Mar is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday night.

Drake, entering her junior year at Linn-Mar, has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in the 100-meter butterfly with an outstanding performance at the University of Iowa pool July 25.

Drake was timed in 1:01.17 in the preliminaries of the 100 fly that day, beating the qualifying standard for the U.S. Trials by two-hundredths of a second. The Trials will be held in Omaha this June in preparation for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil next August.

Lindwall wins Metro Spotlight Award

Frank Lindwall of Cedar Rapids Washington is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday night.

Lindwall, entering his junior year at Washington, has already established himself as one of the top high school golfers in Iowa. He had an 18-hole average of 71.88 strokes last year as a sophomore, which was the second-best average in the state.

Lindwall made a strong showing at the U.S. Junior Amateur championships last month at the Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton, S.C. He shot rounds of 77 and 73 for a 36-hole total of 6-over-par 150 in an international field of elite golfers.
