Metro Players in Pro Baseball

The Metro Sports Report provides regular updates on all the Metro graduates in pro baseball. Here is the report through Thursday, July 2:

SCOTT SCHEBLER (CR Prairie), Oklahoma City, OF, Triple-A, Pacific Coast League (Dodgers): Schebler belted a solo home run and went 1-for-5 Thursday in an 8-4 victory over Memphis. He played right field and hit fifth in the lineup. Schebler is batting .247 (61-for-247) with 10 homers and 30 RBIs.

CHAD CHRISTENSEN (CR Washington), Fort Myers, OF, High-A, Florida State League (Twins): Christensen went 0-for-3 Thursday in a 1-0 loss to Palm Beach. He played right field and hit ninth in the lineup. Christensen is batting .260 (67-for-258) with two homers and 26 RBIs.

JON KELLER (CR Xavier), Frederick, P, High-A, Carolina League (Orioles): Keller did not pitch Thursday in a 4-3 victory over Potomac. He has a 3-4 record, 3.52 ERA and three saves.

MITCH KELLER (CR Xavier), Bristol, P, Rookie, Appalachian League (Pirates): Bristol was rained out Thursday. Mitch Keller has not pitched in any of Bristol's nine games this season due to soreness in his right arm.

 

Ryan tosses shutout for Linn-Mar

WATERLOO - Maddy Ryan pitched a four-hit shutout Thursday as the Linn-Mar Lions blanked Waterloo West, 11-0, in the first game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader.

It was Linn-Mar's fifth shutout victory in a row this week.

Waterloo West countered with a 5-0 shutout of its own in the second game.

Christina Lincoln went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBIs for Linn-Mar in the 11-0 victory. Ally Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Ryan helped her own cause with two hits.

Xavier baseball splits with Wahlert

DUBUQUE - The Xavier Saints split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Dubuque Wahlert on Thursday.

Wahlert won the first game, 3-1. Xavier rebounded with a 4-2 victory in the second game.

Connor Frese pitched a five-hitter and got the victory for the Saints in the 4-2 triumph. Max Hammerberg got the final out for a save.

Connor Powers had three hits for Xavier in the victory. Sean Murphy and Bryce Schulte had two hits.

No. 5 Prairie sweeps No. 9 Lions

Cedar Rapids Prairie has never won a baseball title in the Mississippi Valley Conference in school history, but Coach Todd Rima and the fifth-ranked Hawks are getting mighty close.

Prairie took a big step toward an MVC crown Wednesday night by sweeping a twinbill from No. 9 Linn-Mar, 5-4 in eight innings and 3-0, at the Oak Ridge Middle School complex.

The Hawks have a 17-3 record in the Mississippi Division for a comfortable four-game lead over Dubuque Hempstead, which is sitting in second place at 12-6 with just two weeks left.

Prairie boasts a 24-4 overall mark, just four victories away from breaking the school record of 27.

Kernels sweep series at Wisconsin

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels finished a three-game sweep of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday night with a 3-2 victory before 3,072 fans at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Kernels swept the Timber Rattlers for the third time this season and raised their record against them to 11-1. Felix Jorge tossed six shutout innings for Cedar Rapids but got a no-decision.
