RoughRiders knock off Madison
MADISON, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders scored three power play goals Saturday night and overpowered Madison, 5-3, in a USHL game before 6,321 fans at the Alliant Energy Arena in Madison.
The game was tied, 2-2, in the third period when the RoughRiders struck twice on power plays by Ross Colton and Jiri Fronk for a 4-2 lead.
Madison pulled within 4-3, but the RoughRiders held strong and clinched the game with an empty net goal by Andrew Oglevie with 23 seconds left in the contest.
Erik Foley and Mitch Reinke scored in the first period to give the RoughRiders a 2-0 lead. Madison responded with a pair of goals to square the game, 2-2, setting the stage for Cedar Rapids to dominate the third stanza.
Ryan Larkin played his first game in goal for the RoughRiders and made 31 saves.
