Mount Mercy volleyball trims Statesmen

OSKALOOSA - Alyssa Weldon, Becca Thomson and Maddie Bell combined for  60 kills Tuesday night as Mount Mercy edged William Penn in a Heart of  America Conference volleyball match, 25-22, 21-25, 26-28, 25-17, 15-7,  in Oskaloosa.

Weldon collected 25 kills, Bell had 21 and Thomson added 14 as the  Mustangs won the marathon contest after trailing 2-1 after three sets.

Thomson furnished 23 digs, Weldon 19 and Kayla Daggett 15. Daggett  also distributed 56 assists in the comeback victory.

No. 12 Eagles trimmed by No.1 team

DMACC - The Kirkwood women's volleyball team gave the top-ranked team in the country a good match Saturday before falling to Johnson County, 3-1, at the DMACC tournament in Boone.

Johnson County won the first set 25-23, but the Eagles tied the match with an impressive 25-16 display in the second set. Johnson County claimed the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-20, for the victory.

Kirkwood broke even for the day with a 25-19, 10-25, 25-23, 25-19 victory over Neosha to finish the tournament with a 3-1 record.

Alexa Aldrich-Ingram had a big day with 27 kills against Johnson County and 18 more against Neosha. The southpaw from Iowa City now has 445 kills for the season to rank second in the country in NJCAA Division II, just one kill behind the national leader.

No. 12 Eagles sweep in Boone

BOONE - Alexa Aldrich-Ingram slammed 37 kills Friday as the 12th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles won both of their matches at the DMACC volleyball tournament in Boone.

Aldrich-Ingram had 18 kills as the Eagles began the day with a 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-20 victory over Longview. She collected 19 more kills in a 25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 25-10 verdict over Rochester.

Haleigh Durnin provided 14 kills against Longview. Sami Johnson had eight kills, Abbi Tunis seven and Lauren Keane six.

Keane rolled up 41 assists against Longview. Chloe McNeese served four aces. Maddie Lavenz made 32 digs, Ingram 14, Jonson 13 and McNeese 10. Tunis blocked 10 shots at the net.

Mount Mercy tops MidAmerica Nazarene

Alyssa Weldon collected 10 kills and 12 digs Friday as the Mount Mercy women's volleyball team defeated MidAmerica Nazarene, 26-24, 25-23, 25-17, in a Heart of America Conference match at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Maddie Bell had nine kills, Becca Thomson eight, Olivia Coe five, Olivia Makinen four and Kayla Daggett three in a balanced attack at the net.

Daggett dished out 32 assists. Lauren Stopko had 25 digs and Thomson 15. Bell blocked four shots.

No. 12 Eagles roll by Iowa Lakes

There's a lot to like about the Kirkwood women's volleyball team so far this season.

The Eagles have a sparkling 22-4 record, they've knocked off five ranked teams and they're sporting a No. 12 national ranking themselves.

They might not win the ICCAC Conference title this season as a result of two losses to ranked opponents, but they're putting themselves in a good position to challenge for a spot in the NJCAA Division II national tournament in November.

Kirkwood rolled by Iowa Lakes, 25-14, 25-16, 25-13, in a conference match at Johnson Hall Wednesday night for its 12th victory in their last 13 contests.

The only loss during that streak was a five-set defeat to 11th-ranked Hawkeye Community College in an ICCAC match last week.

"It was important to bounce back in a conference match and advance our level of play," Kirkwood Coach Jill Williams said Wednesday. "It sets us up for another weekend with top-notch tournament.
