Lions' upset bid spoiled by No.10 Wahawks

WATERLOO - No.10 Waterloo West came storming back in the fourth quarter to foil Linn-Mar's upset bid, 42-37, Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game.

Linn-Mar battled back from a five-point halftime deficit to take a 29-25 lead after three quarters. The Lions were outscored 17-8 in the fourth quarter.

Mykaela Brandt scored 14 points to lead Linn-Mar (7-10, 4-5).

Kate Letkewicz led West (12-4, 6-2) with 19 points.

LINN-MAR (37): Hannah Yearling 1 0-0 3, Mykaela Brandt 5 1-1 14, Sara Strauel 2 0-0 4, Jenna Harms 0 0-0 0, Aryn Jones 1 2-2 4, Kristen Eiles 2 0-0 6, Courtney Major 2 0-0 5, Alexis Libenguth 0 1-2 1. Totals 13 4-5 37.

WATERLOO WEST (42): Samantha Sproul 2 0-0 6, Makayla Stokes 0 1-2 1, Haley Puk 1 2-3 4, Hannah Swartzendruber 1 0-0 2, Kate Letkewicz 7 4-4 19, Blaire Thomas 4 2-2 10. Totals 15 9-11 42.
